Tips To Stay Healthy This Holiday Season

Tips To Stay Healthy This Holiday SeasonMillions of Americans are in the midst of the holiday rush: cleaning the entire house to prepare for the in-laws, trying to obtain that perfect present for the many friends and family on the Christmas list, sending out Christmas cards, planning menus, decorating, and the list goes on! As you might imagine, it’s not uncommon to see levels of stress and stress-related injuries on the rise during this season. The team at St. Paul Chiropractic and Natural Medicine want to list some techniques to ensure that you maintain your body’s full potential this holiday season.

Getting Plenty Of Rest

It may seem like an impossibility: who can rest, when there are seemingly a million things to do? We get it, however, having a good night’s sleep can do so much for your stress levels and the natural balance in your body systems. Aside from your body feeling better, you are less likely to feel the effects of stress, and you will wake more refreshed and energized. This allows your brain to make better decisions and function more efficiently. If you can’t get the proper rest, at least limit the amount of caffeine you take in, try to maintain a consistent bedtime, and get plenty of exercise (which leads us to our next topic):

Exercise

Making exercise and fitness a priority will help keep your energy levels at their highest during this stressful season. Walking from store to store, or in and out of parking lots, while good for you, does not count as exercise. Exercise that elevates the levels of endorphins in your body, and that is most beneficial, comes from sessions of targeted activities. If you are finding it difficult to go to the gym every day or work out and still get everything done, consider short 10-minute sessions throughout the day.

Maintaining A Good Diet

Oh, who doesn’t partake of the many cookies, cakes, pies, and holiday sweets that are so readily accessible throughout the season and many parties. You’ve heard the saying, “All good things in moderation.” This is the case here, too. Don’t let your overall health and nutrition goals get overlooked too much during this holiday season. It’s certainly okay to splurge every once in a while but be aware of how often you splurge. If you find it difficult to maintain your diet, increase the intake of greens during your meals. Your body will thank you!
